Why we're here...

Beer culture is coming of age. At any store, restaurant, bar, or friend's house you can now find at least a few good brews. In fact, there seem to be so many new beers, breweries and bars it's difficult to separate the good, the bad, and the mediocre.

If you're going spend $10 on one beer, what should you buy? If you're going to drive 2 hours to check out a brewery, what's worth your time? If you're going to plan a Friday night, what has a good selection and friendly atmosphere? We're here to help you answer these questions.

Hoptopia

Hoptopia is a Double IPA from the Hermitage Brewing Company of San Jose. Hermitage is not your normal brewery. They make beers and sodas. They have no physical sit down location. Most of their beers are only available through BevMo. Lastly, Hermitage is a contract brewery - they can make beers for other people.

I bought this at BevMo for really cheap. It has an ABV of 8%.

The beer pours a light amber color with a thin head and little lacings. The smell is malty with hints of floral, earthy and citrus hops. There could even be some roasted malts. The taste is not a DIPA. It's earthy and slightly smoky, but sweet with very little hop taste. It coats the mouth, medium bodied and not very carbonated.

This beer really sucks. It's not a DIPA. Skip It. I am going to stop writing before I waste anymore time on this beer.

  1. I have to agree with you on this one. Oddly enough, and I am not a big malt guy, their "Maltopia" was actually enjoyable.
