Why we're here...

Beer culture is coming of age. At any store, restaurant, bar, or friend's house you can now find at least a few good brews. In fact, there seem to be so many new beers, breweries and bars it's difficult to separate the good, the bad, and the mediocre.

If you're going spend $10 on one beer, what should you buy? If you're going to drive 2 hours to check out a brewery, what's worth your time? If you're going to plan a Friday night, what has a good selection and friendly atmosphere? We're here to help you answer these questions.

Mission IPA

Mission IPA is by Mission Brewery of San Diego, CA.

The aroma has distinct caramel malts. The taste has the caramel malts and a slight bitter finish. The mouthfeel is slightly sitcky and it has a medium body. Not much of a head an almost zero lacings.

This IPA won Bronze at the Great American Brew Fest in 2007. The brewery's website describes this beer as being "Fraught with hops complex, vigorous and virile." I don't taste any hop flavor other than the bitter. This means they are either over selling their beer or this bottle is old. I looked for a date, but didn't see anything.

I bought this at a Bel Air, its always in stock. I'm going to assume this is an old bottle. Buying hoppy beers at chain supermarkets can be risky, they don't sell fast and hoppy beers don't maintain their hop flavor for long periods of time.

Has anyone had a difference experience with this beer?

I'm going to refrain from making a judgement until I can verify I am tasting a fresh beer.
